Meet Garrett King, Maine 4-H Hancock County Alumnus

Garrett KingGarrett King is a freshman at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. The former Hancock county 4-Her is studying English as a Second Language (ESL) and plans to teach ESL after he earns both his undergraduate and master's degrees. Garrett credits 4-H with getting him started on his career path.

Garrett's interest in Japan, the Japanese language, and ESL began with the 4-H International Exchange program. Through the program, Garrett traveled to Japan at age 13 and his family hosted three month-long students and two year-long students.

Garrett says, "4-H has changed me as a person. Without 4-H, I couldn't imagine where I would be today. I want to say 'thank you' to everyone for helping me and for letting my ideas be accomplished."

You can read more about Garrett's story in the June 2006 issue of the Foundation Focus newsletter. Not receiving the newsletter? Send an email with your name and address to amartin@umext.maine.edu and indicate that you'd like to be put on the mailing list. The Foundation Focus is a free, quarterly publication of the Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation.
