July 20, 2008 at Windsor Fairground

FITTING CONTEST

The 2008 Fitting Contest will take place in conjunction with the 2008 Maine 4-H Dairy Show scheduled for July 19-20, 2008 at the Windsor Fairgrounds.

Each State may send one fitting team (3 members) to Eastern States.  Fitting team members for ESE must meet the eligibility requirements as if taking an animal to ESE.   Any member of a previous winning team at ESE is not eligible to be a team member again.

DESCRIPTION OF MAINE FITTING CONTEST

  • Participants will provide their own animal for the contest.  The contest animal must be unclipped (not touched at least six weeks prior to the contest and at the discretion of the judge – this will be strictly enforced).  The animal should be head clipped, clean and dry.  Judges will preview the animals.
  • Participants will be given 1 hour to fit their animal to the best of their ability.
  • The contest will take place in the animal stall/clipping chute.  At the close of the hour, the judges will review the animals.  Contestants will be called to a central area and the Fitting Contest winners will be announced.  Selection will be based on quality of the fitting completed as well as quality of the work as it was done.
  • Participants will be divided into 2 divisions for awards:
    • Juniors – age 9-11 years
    • Intermediate/Seniors – age 12 and older
  • Animal must have current rabies (within 1 year) certification
