 CLOVER COUNTRY CD

Lots of 4-H members grow up to have famous important jobs – astronaut, congressman, and the like.  But some 4-H members grow up to be country music stars! National 4-H Council has partnered with EMI Music to create "Clover Country: Songs from Famous 4-H Alumni"—the first-of-its-kind country music CD featuring famous 4-H alumni. Clover Country features Grammy-winning song writer, Hillary Lindsey's "The Clown," which Lindsey exclusively recorded for the album as well as hit songs from country music mega stars and 4-H alumni like Sugarland, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Vince Gill, and Alabama. Best of all, every time someone from Maine buys a CD from the 4-H mall, a portion of the sale goes to Maine 4-H.

 2008 4-H Food Booth Schedule

Jean Sloat has agreed once again to be our 4-H Food Booth manager (THANK YOU, JEAN) and we are now in the process of signing up clubs to help with running this important 4-H fundraiser. Clubs may sign up for a whole or half day—however, clubs that want half days should find another club to share the day.

We will also be having a Leader’s Association Day which is the one day that actually brings proceeds back to the LA.  All clubs are asked to volunteer 3 or 4 hours on that day.

4-H members 12 and up can take orders and serve food in the 4-H Food Booth.  Members must be 16 to work around the grill.  Well-supervised younger members may clear tables and help with dishes.  There should be 3-4 adults working at all times.

Here is the schedule so far—please note where there are empty slots.  We especially need to have a club cover Friday July 25 as the horse and beef people are tied up that day.

FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED-PLEASE VOLUNTEER ASAP!

To volunteer, clubs can call Jean Sloat at 532-3567 or 532-0753 or Christy or Laurie at 532-6548

 Cooking, Crafts & Kids….

Mother’s Day is just around the corner!  I’ve discovered a couple of ideas that you may want to try to make your mom feel extra-special on her special day!

 RUSSIAN TEA MIX

 You will need:

1 1/3 cups Tang Brand Orange Flavored Drink Mix

1/2 cup of sugar

1/3 cup of instant tea

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

Mix all ingredients.  Store in a tightly covered jar.

Just add 1 Tablespoon to 3/4 of hot water.  If you like it a little stronger, add more to taste.

CARAMEL APPLE TART

   You will need:

·         1 pkg. (10 oz.) Pepperidge Farm Frozen Puff Pastry Shells

·         6 Tablespoons of splenda - (sugar substitute)

·         1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

·         1/2 teaspoon of ginger

·         3 apples or pears, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (4 cups)

·         2/3 cup caramel sauce.

Thaw pastry shells at room temperature 30 minutes.  Preheat oven to 375º.  Mix splenda, cinnamon, and ginger and set aside.

Roll pastry shells into 5-inch circles on lightly floured surface.  Place on 2 shallow-sided baking sheets.  Divide apple slices among pastry circles.  Sprinkle each with 1 tablespoon of spice mixture.  Bake for 25 minutes or pastry is golden.

In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat caramel sauce until warm.  Spoon over tarts.  Serve with ice cream.

If you have any styrofoam egg cartons laying around, try making Mom a bouquet of flowers!

You will need some pipe cleaners or chenille stems, the egg cartons (different colors would be great!), scissors (edging scissors would be really good) and something for a vase.

Cut apart the egg cartons so that each compartment is separate.  Using the scissors, carefully cut the open edge to resemble the petals of a flower such as a tulip or daisy.

Push a pipe cleaner through the bottom, form a little knot or ball at the end (inside the flower) and stand in a vase.  If you want you can make leaves out of green construction paper and tape them onto the pipe cleaner.

Try several designs!
