Important changes in the
timeline
(5/23/03)
Greetings to all from the Plan of Work Task Force,
I am writing to update you on the progress of planning for our next Plan of Work (POW), and IMPORTANT CHANGES in the timeline for completing this work. Some of you may have already heard this information at the recent faculty meeting or CEC President's meeting.
POW Task Force
The POW Task Force has recently had our second planning meeting and has made great progress in defining our mission, creating a vision for the process and setting the foundations of the statewide needs assessment which will help UMCE define future programming based on clearly defined needs.
New Information from CSREES/USDA
We have also reviewed communications from USDA/CSREES about their intention to extend the current 5 year POW for one year beyond it's current end date. This new intention would necessitate that we add one additional year to the goals of our current POW (October 1, 2004 - September 30, 2005), and prepare the new 5 year POW to begin on October 1, 2005 (submitted to USDA/CSREES in June 2005). The Administrative Council has endorsed this plan.
New Timeline
The task force views this as an opportunity for UMCE to carefully complete needs assessments, program planning, and an updated reporting system and have therefore revised the timeline to reflect this intended change. We plan to make needs assessment guidelines available so that the you can begin that process beginning in early July, and target completion for the end of this calendar year. Results of the needs assessment will be used to drive program planning which will be undertaken between late spring and early fall of 2004. The POW will be written and a new reporting system developed in time for the anticipated due date of June 2005.
We intend to make the interim one year extension of our current POW as simple and easy as possible. More information will follow as our work proceeds.
Website
Cindy Eves-Thomas is building a website as a source of information about the new POW and the workings of the task force. It should be ready soon and will contain an updated timeline, needs assessment resources, meeting minutes and other information.
