County News

     Extra! Extra!

Are your 4-H club members showing animals and/or project exhibits at the local fairs this summer? If so, why not have two or three members write a news article to the daily and weekly papers highlighting the involvement of your members at the fairs. This can • Help publicize 4-H • Help your club become a Blue Ribbon Club • Let others know what your 4-H group is doing

You may also submit 4-H news articles and digital or original photos for the 4-H on the Move newsletter. Be sure to attach a sticky note on the back with names, event, what is happening in the picture and who to return the pictures to.

4-H Volunteer Question and Answer Corner

Can a leased animal be removed from a submitted animal approval form?

Yes, the lease can be revoked by the owner of the animal.

The original 4-H Youth would have to complete a new animal approval form using the original date. The new form would not list the prior leased animal. The new animal approval form and the old animal approval form with the embossed seal need to mailed or dropped off to the local county extension office.

Can this revoked leased animal be leased by another 4-H member? Since it is prior to animal approval form June 30th due date, the animal can be leased by another 4-H member.

Keep your Eyes Open so You Can Nominate Exhibitors of Character…

The Exhibitor of Character Award is one of the highest honors a 4-H member can receive because it celebrates a person who models trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship while participating in our fairs. If you see someone who goes out of their way to be helpful to other 4-Hers, respectful to fair officials, other exhibitors, and the public, gracious in the show-ring, and who makes a special effort to make the fair fun and safe for all, please nominate that person for this award by giving their name to Joyce or Jane. Recognition will be made at Achievement Night. Members, volunteers, parents, and the public may nominate 4-H members for an Exhibitor of Character award.

Hone Outdoor Leadership Skills at Tanglewood

Tanglewood 4-H Camp and Learning Center in Lincolnville still has space available in their Leadership 2 Development Program, July 27 – August 15, and financial aid is still available for current members of a Maine 4-H club.

The program offers campers ages 15-17 the opportunity to test leadership skills and learn to live off the land through an immersive eight-day backpacking trip that covers the entire length of the St. George watershed. Campers begin the journey at Frye Mountain in Montville and end at the Marshall Point lighthouse in Port Clyde. Many lessons are learned along the way, as each camper has his or her chance to lead the group for a day under the supervision and guidance of Tanglewood’s trip leaders, and make decisions that affect the group. Campers also learn about the natural history and human impact of the region from the land, local historians, fishermen and each other.

For more information or to register for any of Tanglewood’s available programs call (207) 789-5868 or visit www.tanglewood4h.org
