4/10/2007 Dr. Don Hoenig's Office has just posted a news release on confirmed cases of Equine Herpes Virus (Rhinopneumonitis) in Maine. The 2006 Maine Dairy Show was held on July 22 and 23 at the Windsor Fair Grounds.  Holly Whitcomb and Colleen Schofield, 4-H members from Waldo County garnered their share of top three placements in various classes.  Whitcomb, an independent 4-H member from Waldo, placed third in the all breeds fitting and showmanship for youth ages 14 to 18.  All five of her Jersey cattle placed first or second in their classes:  second in winter heifer calves, first in fall heifer calves, first in summer yearling heifers, second in spring yearling heifers,  second in fall yearling calves and her calf Springdale Deluxe Pico, a fall calf, placed as the junior champion.  Schofield, a member of the Little Beavers 4-H Club in Knox, placed third in all breeds fitting and showmanship for youth ages 9 to 11.  Of Schofield’s seven cattle, three placed third or higher: first in Jersey winter heifer calves, second in Jersey fall heifer calves and third in Holstein fall heifer calves.

   4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills.
