Healthy ME, Healthy You Program

The right coughing technique prevents spread of germs
Humorous video posted by the University of Missouri Extension demonstrating the proper method of covering your cough. This 5 minute video was developed by an ear, nose, and throat specialist and is aimed at the common citizen. Its message is serious, but it is presented with humor in such a way that it engages the viewer's attention for a full five minutes while the message is repeated in interesting new ways.

ACTIVITY: Double Dutch Jump Rope

The 4-H Healthy Lifestyles team received a Kraft Foods grant through the National 4-H Council to put together health-related activity/resource kits to be used by 4-H leaders, all Extension staff, school personnel and community members involved in health-related activities. These kits are available for loan by contacting your local Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Program or Eat Well Program.

If you use parts of kit or borrow parts of the kit, please make sure an evaluation form gets filled out. Completing and submitting evaluations will help us track use of materials in the kit and effectiveness. We would appreciate receiving these evaluations either by e-mail elibby@umext.maine.edu or by USPS mail. Thank you for your help!

Healthy ME, Healthy You Kit

The kits also contain a box of 15 pedometers, a stop watch, a pulse meter, stretch band (like theraband) material and a file box of materials with the following sections:

Note: For larger events, we have over 100 pedometers that can be borrowed.

Healthy ME, Healthy You regional trainings

The 4-H Healthy Lifestyles team is also talking about regional trainings using the materials from this kit. If any of you would be interested in helping with these trainings, we would be happy to have you join us and will let you know when our next 4-H Healthy Lifestyles planning meeting is.

Thank you for all you do to help Maine youth and families live healthier lives!
