Introduction
4-H isn't just farming and livestock anymore. The club is now branching out and
offering a wide variety of projects to get involved in. For kids interested in
health and fitness, double Dutch is an exciting project that keeps them active
while learning something fun.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderate
Things You'll Need:
2 double Dutch ropes
2 friends (at least)
Steps
Step One
Join your local 4-H chapter. Visit 4-H online to find a link to your state's 4-H chapter. From there locate a meeting close to you and join.
Step Two
Start practicing. Double Dutch is hard work and takes time to master. Get 2 to 3 friends together and have 2 turn the ropes. The others can practice moving in and out of the jump ropes.
Step Three
Develop a routine. Set it to music or chant something but either way have every move choreographed. Add lots of easy elements you do well—like jumping jacks—for lower points.
Step Four
Add more difficult tricks that will earn you more points. Cartwheels, round-offs and leapfrog jumps will earn you many points for each you perform well. They are also some of the most difficult tricks to perform, so practice these intensely and perform them sparingly.
Step Five
Volunteer for a demonstration. Show off your skills and get more practice by doing a 4-H demonstration. Plus you'll have a chance to work the bugs out of your routine and resolve any fears of performing in public.
Step Six
Enter a competition when you're ready. Join your 4-H competition and compete there or find a national competition and enter there. Either way is a good chance to compete and determine what skill level you're at.
