4-H Volunteer Professional Development
After a volunteer has been enrolled for at least one year, up to $50 per enrolled volunteer per year is available for discretionary use towards professional growth and development. Use of these funds should benefit the individual in ways that will contribute to the benefit of the Waldo County 4-H program, and must be approved by the Waldo County 4-H staff. A written request is expected from the volunteer, addressed to the 4-H staff, outlining the activity, cost, relation to the volunteer's plan of work and what the anticipated benefit to the Waldo County 4-H program will be.
Volunteers are at the heart of 4-H
Maine 4-H clubs and programs are supported by trained and certified volunteers as well as hundreds of committed parents and youth leaders. To access statewide information, volunteers and leaders may visit the sites linked below.

Animal Science Coordinators
Michaele Bailey, our state Activities and Events Coordinator, and Donna Flint, our Eastern States Coordinator, and I have worked to come up with a list that reflects their responsibilities, particularly as they relate to animal science and Eastern States. Ever wonder "who to call" for various questions or concerns about State 4-H Animal Science Activities and Events or Eastern States? This will help you know the roles and responsibility of the Eastern States Coordinator and the State Animal Science Program Coordinator. ASC Responsibilities

Volunteers as advocates
Advocacy Tips
No matter what the organization or cause, successful advocacy involves several important characteristics. Please keep these in mind as you speak up and speak out on behalf of our cause: the importance and value of 4-H, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and Maine’s public universities.
4-H Volunteers USA
The 4-H Volunteer web site, www.4hvolunteersusa.org, developed by National 4-H Council, is a source for on-line volunteer resources that 4-H volunteers and professionals can access for many program needs. It includes general 4-H organizational information, programming ideas for local 4-H clubs, resources to meet the challenges of working with youth today, and management information for the middle management volunteer or professional staff. Special interactive content allows you to hear from real 4-H volunteers about what motivates them.
4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills.
