Executive Committee Meeting Minutes
Monday November 10, 2008
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Healthy Waldo County meets on Wed. 11/19/08 4-6pm at The Boat House for community dialogue.
Received a thank you letter from Madison Albert, Jr. from Winterport, recipient of our 2008 scholarship.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Struggling with supply line even with conservation; cut it by $1000 last year; ’09 request is $4500, an increase of $500.
Postage not used much; mostly emails.
Rick needs to work w/Orono to see what our secretarial bill will be; will work with Sonia so we don’t get surprised. There have been some staff transitions to factor in, which is unusual.
Met w/ County Budget Committee Fri. 11/7…no issues. Public hearing is in December.
Will very soon submit 4th quarter installment request to county…better late than never!
EDUCATORS’ REPORTS:
CARAGH (email handout): managing Master Gardner Prog; working on farm energy and new farmer programs.
RICK (handout):
research projects all summer; long list of insects/diseased problems.
“White Rot” in garlic is new, will continue to be a problem; few suppliers of garlic sets in Maine, most are effected; also lives in soil for 15 years!
JANE (handout):
“Doing Business” radio show featured challenges faced by small business owners who experienced illness/injury.
4-H volunteers had two recent win-win-win experiences 1) creating an emotionally safe & encouraging environment for an autistic boy, and 2) respectfully & sensitively assisting a 4-H member and illiterate parents fill out enrollment forms. Volunteers, club members, parents all benefit from opening new doors.
CIVIL RIGHTS TRAINING
by Jane: annual update for committee members. Jane will check if our “…and justice for all” posters are up to date. Most recent date on posters is 12/99.
OTHER ITEMS:
Barbara will ask Sonia to send out scholarship notifications to area schools.
Jacqui, Ann and Chia asked to receive “Perspective” newsletters.
Hoping to have fewer face-to-face WCEA committee meetings this year… more productive, more informative.
Should participate in county budget committee public hearing in Dec. if you can; Rick/Barbara will email date/time/place.
NEXT MEETING: Mon. Dec. 8, ‘08 @ 6:30 6:15 for meet & greet & eat SNACKS BY ABBY.
Respectfully submitted by Chia Murdock, secretary pro tem.
