County Extension Association Annual Meeting
Bay Ridge Elementary School, Cutler, Maine
Betty Duzen of Cutler received the Norman W. Duzen Community Service Award. Betty has contributed in the lives of many Washington County residents in countless ways. She has been involved with many organizations and churches. Since her husband passed away, she has been the pastor of the Whitneyville Congregational Church. She has organized many community events in Whitneyville for people of all ages. She has given history lessons to many children in area schools by portraying former President’s wives. She has been a leader of the Machias Extension Homemakers, a member of the Senior Companion Program Advisory Committee, a leader of Neighbors Helping Neighbors and promoter and organizer of many youth activities.
The Leon Look Award was presented to Dorothy Gaddis of East Machias. Dot has made many wonderful contributions to the Washington County Extension Homemakers, the Washington County Extension Association and the Senior Companion Advisory Committee.
The University of Maine Pen Awards were presented to Frank Cleaves of Pleasant Point for his support of the 4-H Program and the Eat Well Nutrition Program and Charlie Harrington of the EdGE Program received a Pen Award for his work with the Eat Well Nutrition Program.
Bay Ridge Elementary students from the 7th and 8th grade presented a lesson on the importance of food safety and healthy eating. The students had been working with Nutrition Associate Brenda Roberts throughout the school year.
