 4-H Flash Newsletter

4-H is the youth development education program of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.   4-H is the largest youth organization in the world!  Any youth ages 5-18 can participate in "learn by doing" projects.  There are a number of ways for youth to participate in 4-H including club programming, school enrichment programs, camps, creating individual projects, and many other activities

NEW- Scholarships for summer camp still available!

 Maine DIF&W Moose Permit auction scholarship funds:($50,000 for summer camp scholarships at Bryant Pond!)

We still have plenty of $200 scholarships available for Maine residents. These are one time only and first-come, first-served. They may be used for any of the following programs:

- Conservation Camp (Archery or Firearms Hunter Safety)
- Natural Explorer
- 4-H Shooting Sports Archery Camp
Fishing Camp
- Paddling Adventures Camp

 

4-H Shooting Sports summer camp program scholarships...

A local family foundation and sporting goods store owner has recently given us a limited number of $200 scholarships for the following 4-H Shooting Sports summer camp programs:

- Archery Camp 

- Shotgun & Rifle

- Apprentice Hunter

 

ME DEP holds auction to raise scholarship funds.

Every spring the Maine Department of Environmental Protection employees hold an auction of donated items to raise scholarship funds for our camp programs and for their garden in Augusta. This year they raised enough funds to offer us 20 - $100 scholarships. Click here for more information.

 

Local sporting clubs looking for scholarship takers !!...

We have been contacted by several sporting clubs from around the state who have scholarship funds available for young people in their local community:

Presque Isle Fish & Game Club ,  Scarborough Fish & Game Association , Penobscot County Conservation Association ... to name a few ! Call your local club today!!

Ages 12-15

 AKA *Naturalist Camp - 4-H GPS/GIS is an alternative to the traditional Conservation Camp where campers will "Get Outdoors" to learn about wildlife and their surroundings including woods, water ,land and air.  Participants will collect GPS data to carry out a service mapping project for the Center and will spend 1 1/2 days at UMM using the computer labs and exploring the campus.  ATV and Boater Safety certifications course will be included as an additional option. Bring your cameras for tips on photography!

COST includes times at both sites:

$250.00 (4-H members $150.00)

NEW- Operation Military Kids Summer Camps- For youth whose parents are in the military National Guard and Reserve Units and any children with parents who are, will be, or just arrived back from deployment.  Dates:June 19 – 21, Camp Tracy in Oakland, ages 9-12, Transportation from regional areas (Bangor, Portland), Cost: $25.00 / July 31 – August 2, Bryant Pond 4-H Camp in Bryant Pond, Ages 13 – 18, Transportation from regional areas (Bangor, Portland), Cost: $25.00 / August 7-9, Bryant Pond 4-H Camp in Bryant Pond, Ages 13 – 18 (limited number of spaces), Transportation from regional areas (Bangor, Portland), Cost: $30.00
