Extension Homemaker groups throughout
Hancock County develop leadership and promote
University of Maine Cooperative Extension's educational
mission.
There are currently four
Extension Homemaker groups in Hancock
County, covering the areas of Duck
Cove (Bucksport area), East Surry (Ellsworth area), Orland, and
Otis/Mariaville. We also have a growing number of independent
members, who take part in educational
programs and workshops, but do not participate in a local
community group.
Representatives from each local
Extension Homemaker group participate
at monthly county-wide Advisory Committee meetings. They develop
a yearly program plan based upon needs and interests of local
members.
Joining an Extension Homemaker
group offers you an opportunity to learn with others, make new
friends, and improve your community,
state, and country. You can broaden your perspective
and gain leadership skills and
confidence to share your interests and talents with others.
Members pay dues of $3.50 per
year to support the county and
Maine
Extension Homemakers organization.
Groups may solicit additional fees or conduct fundraisers to
defray program expenses. Members also donate spare change at
meetings for the state "Coins
for Caring" fund. Each year this
money is given to a Maine organization chosen by members from
options recommended by the Maine Extension Homemakers Council.
