Fisheries Management

Phase I

The Georges River Clam Fishery Restoration Project was completed in September of 1999. This project provided community capacity building to five municipalities and their fishing communities.  This resulted in the formation of the Georges River Regional Clam Management Program run by the towns and the clammers.

Phase II

This successful program is now being used as a case study and test site for community-based fisheries management in Maine.

Community-based management may have future applications in other Maine fisheries.
