Maine is rich in tourism assets and opportunities.
Nature, the outdoors, community life, culture and heritage all provide
opportunities for tourism development. A solid foundation for sustainable
tourism is built upon leadership, organization and knowledge. Knowledge
of tourism assets helps community leaders and planners see how they
might participate with various types of tourism.
Niche tourism.
There are distinct types of tourism that offer the traveler-visitor
unique, memorable experiences. Each type of tourism requires particular
assets and stewardship. Tourism niches attract distinct types of customers,
each with particular interests and expectations.
