Area Resources for Kids—ARK

The ARK program offers children, ages 3-12, early enrichment in visual and performing arts, international cultures, and sciences. Each workshop encourages parent and child participation in the learning process.

Aspirations, Career Education, and Entrepreneurship Program

Teen participants study resume and portfolio writing, career exploration, job shadowing, preparing and funding college, as well as life skills.Youth are engaged in job shadowing and job internships in rural as well as urban areas. Setting goals and pursuing youth aspirations are the focus of the program.

CATALYST Program

The CATALYST program helps Middle School Advisor/Advisee Teams throughout the school year. The curriculum helps youth to build a sense of group, take on leadership roles, build a community learn-and-serve project, or become a peer support group. The "ROTA" interactive teen theater program has been incorporated into the CATALYST training as a method for teaching effective communication and conflict resolution.

In the past, Oxford Hills Middle School, Lake Region Middle School, Buckfield Middle School, and Molly Ockett Middle School in Fryeburg all held active CATALYST programs, or utilized the resources in the curriculum. CATALYST continues to be a resource for middle schools.

County-wide 4-H Youth Development

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development Program in Oxford County includes clubs, Leaders' Association, and enrichment activities. The Leaders' Association plans special county-wide events, such as demonstrations, outdoor education, style revue, field trips, ski days, and educational programs.

The 4-H program is very strong throughout Oxford County and continues to grow. A number of 4-H clubs in our county create new exciting programs and receive creativity grants from the Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation.

Eastern States Center Program

The UMaine Extension Oxford County 4-H Program represents Maine each year at the Big E in the New England Center Building. The program includes stage performances by talented 4-H members. The UMaine Extension Oxford County office helps support the very dedicated 4-H leaders who plan and implement this fantastic effort each September. 

Eastern States Livestock

Many UMaine Extension Oxford County 4-H members take part in the Eastern States animal show in the areas of horse, beef, dairy, sheep, dog, working steers, and goats.

4-H Fair Programs

UMaine Extension Oxford County 4-H members and leaders work hard all year in preparation for exhibition at county fairs. 4-H is well represented at Waterford, Oxford, Ossipee, and Fryeburg fairs in Oxford County and at other fairs across Maine.

Each year, our county fairs make tremendous contributions to our program.  UMaine Extension Oxford County 4-H would like to thank the many fair volunteers who donate their hard work in making the 4-H programs successful. 

4-H First Aid, Health, Safety, and AIDS Education

UMaine Extension Oxford County plans and creates 4-H first aid and health, safety, and AIDS Education kits and training packets for all 4-H clubs. Packs are located with each club countywide and introduction/training is done as new clubs begin work and through Leaders' meetings. A local 4-H volunteer and EMT offer first aid training to both leaders and teen members annually.
