Anita Libby-Kain, Nutrition Aide
Nutrition education staff provide programming to individuals, families and communities to help them make informed choices about food, to promote healthy lifestyles, and to support economic and social well being. Using research-based information and resources, faculty and staff help Mainers make behavior changes by: making environmental and policy changes to encourage healthy diets; promoting eating well at all life stages; managing issues of the elderly; and addressing problems of hunger and food security.
Workshops, programs and community interventions are available to Maine-based groups on a variety of topics. Educational materials, catalog listings of federally supported materials (including information on school-age nutrition, dietary recommendations and food labeling) as well as an extensive audio visual library are also available. 4-H is the youth development education program of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. 4-H participants range from ages 5 to 19 and, traditionally, organize themselves into 4-H clubs to support each other as they take on "learn-by-doing" projects. Young people can also become involved in 4-H through 4-H school enrichment programs, 4-H camps, by creating individual 4-H projects of their own, and many other activities. 4-H teaches young people life skills necessary for success in life. For more information about how you can become involved in 4-H, contact your county Extension office or visit Maine 4-H.
