Did you sign up for the Ag in the Classroom License Plate?

Important information from: Charles Armstrong, Extension Professional.

Hi everyone.  The day I thought would never come, finally arrived on October 1st!  I enjoyed a nice, low-key unveiling ceremony at the Augusta BMV, with First Lady Karen Baldacci, Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap, and a number of others who had worked very hard on the project.  It was a true honor for me, and doubtless the most fun I will ever have at a BMV.  =)

There is one important matter I would like to share with everyone regarding the plate.  If you are planning to purchase one or more sets of the plate anytime over the next year or so, the Maine Agriculture in the Classroom Assn. is requesting that you please purchase vouchers from them first. [The voucher is essentially a coupon/ticket that means you don't pay for your set of plates when you go to get them].

The reason for this is because the state issued about 900 vouchers to the Ag in the Classroom Assn. for all of the people who signed up, but didn't actually pay any money in advance.  Thus, for each voucher we sell, all $20 of the cost will go back to the Maine Ag in the Classroom Assn., whereas if you get your plates at a town office or BMV, only $10 of the $20 will go back to Ag in the Class.  So, what that means is that if we were unable to sell all of those vouchers, we would be docking ourselves some of that original, up-front fee of $40,000 that had to be paid to the state.  But of course, no matter how you obtain your plates, Maine Ag in the Classroom will benefit, but buying vouchers instead will benefit the group even more

The Maine Ag in the Classroom Assn's web site still has the form on it that you can print off, and mail in to them, with your payment for a voucher (or vouchers if asking for more than 1 set).  Their web site is http://www.maineagintheclassroom.org
