Friday, November 21, 2008 Chainsaw Use & Safety Workshop 9:00 to noon, Somerset County Extension Office, 7 County Drive, Skowhegan, featuring Ron Jester, Farm Safety Specialist University of Delaware & Mike Pateneude, Application Specialist from Stihl Chainsaw. The workshop is free and open to the public. However, registration is needed so that ample materials will be on hand for participants. To register please contact the University of Mane Cooperative Extension in Cumberland County at 1-800-287-1471 or choyt@umext.maine.edu. The workshops are designed to equip individuals in the safe and proper use of chainsaws and to how to effectively maintain the saw for long life. These workshops are an outreach of the Farm Safety PLT of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
November 24, 2008 Beginner Cheese-making Class 9:00 am to 4:00pm at the UMaine Commercial Kitchen Hitchner Hall (Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition) on the Orono Campus with Caitlin Hunter (Appleton Creamery). Come join us for a very informal and hands-on class to learn the basics on how to make: Feta, Queso Fresco, Mozzarella and Ricotta.
The cost is $20.00. Refreshments will be available in the morning and lunch will be on your own. The Marketplace (Memorial Union) offers a nice variety of lunch items and is within walking distance from Hitchner Hall. Please wear casual clothing and comfortable shoes, and bring a clean apron. Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008. Energy Saving Tips noon to 1 pm, Piscataquis County Extension Office, 165 East Main St., Dover-Foxcroft. Are you looking for information on inexpensive things to do to your home or apartment to reduce your heating costs and/or make you more comfortable this winter? Home owners, home renters, apartment renters and all interested people are welcome to this free program. Please contact our office to let us know you are coming so we can have enough hand out materials for everyone or to find out more about this free program.
