Open Pollinated Corn

Many organic dairy producers who grow corn are looking for an alternative source for corn seed. Many are concerned with trace level contamination of current seed stock with genetically modified seed, others do not wish to support the chemical/seed industry.  In the northeast, given our relatively challenging growing conditions, it is possible that open pollinated corn may produce as well as hybrid corn.  We are trying to provide growers with research based information on relative strengths and weaknesses of open pollinated corn.  Please view our PowerPoint program that Stephan Seiter and John Jemison recently presented at the New England Crops and Soils Research and Extension In-Service Training.
