Examples of Watershed Stewards Program projects
  • Ellsworth area Watershed Stewards are currently conducting a Watershed Survey of Branch Lake.

  • In 2007, volunteers conducted a watershed survey of the Coleman Pond watershed in Lincolnville.

  • Other ongoing projects include

    • the revitalization of the Greater Pushaw Lake Association;

    • the initiation of a Watershed Management Plan on Sebasticook Lake in Newport; and

    • the initiation of a LakeSmart Program on Green Lake in Ellsworth/Dedham.

The Watershed Stewards Program is a volunteer program of University of Maine Cooperative Extension and LEAP, the Northern New England Lake Education and Action Project.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension Water Quality Program is a partner in the CSREES New England Regional Water Quality Program. We actively participate in the following New England Regional Water Quality Focus Areas: Nutrient and Pest Management, New England Private Well Initiative, New England NEMO, Sustainable Landscapes, and Animal Waste Management.
